Teflon
Get low-friction, wear-resistant coatings for your high-performance aluminum components.
What is Teflon?
Teflon is a process where PTFE particles are incorporated into the porous structure of an anodized aluminum coating, typically during or after the anodizing process. Once sealed, the PTFE becomes embedded within the oxide layer, creating a surface with both hardness and lubricity.
This hybrid finish combines:
- the hard, protective oxide layer of anodizing
- the low friction properties of PTFE
The result is a coating that reduces surface friction while maintaining corrosion resistance and durability.
Upstate Anodize provides teflon for aluminum parts used in applications where smooth operation, reduced wear, and long-term performance are critical. This process is commonly applied to components exposed to sliding contact, repeated motion, or environments where lubrication is limited.
Benefits of Teflon
Reduced Friction
PTFE provides a naturally low coefficient of friction, allowing parts to move smoothly with less resistance.
Improved Wear Resistance
Combining anodizing with PTFE creates a durable surface that resists wear in sliding and contact applications.
Dry lubrication
Teflon reduces or eliminates the need for additional lubricants, making it ideal for clean or maintenance-sensitive environments.
Corrosion Protection
The teflon layer continues to provide corrosion resistance, protecting aluminum parts from environmental exposure.
Extended Component Life
By reducing friction and wear, PTFE can significantly increase the service life of components.
Technical Details
Before moving forward with teflon for your part, think about how important elements like coating thickness, lubrication needs, and part size could affect your part’s needs.
Teflon Sealing
- Reduces friction and improves surface lubricity for smoother part movement
- Enhances wear resistance and helps prevent galling in high-contact applications
